Men’s and women’s cross-country racing kicked off Collegiate Mountain Bike Nationals at the Northstar-at-Tahoe resort outside of Truckee, California on Friday, leading into three days of tough gravity and endurance racing with the best collegiate athletes in the country.
Erica Zaveta (Lees-McCrae College) took home top honors in the women’s Division 1, with Lydia Tanner (Montana State University – Bozeman) winning the Division 2 race.
Rotem Ishay (Fort Lewis College) took his second win in as many years in the men’s Division 1, while 17-year-old phenom Howard Grotts (Colorado School of Mines) smashed the Division 2 field.
Saturday morning’s short-track will see endurance racers throwing punches once again, and will be followed by four-cross, the first gravity event of the weekend. Racing will finish up with downhill Sunday morning.
Check back for a full report and more from the weekend of racing.
