A couple of weeks ago, Specialized Factory Racing’s Todd Wells tore a page from rival Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski’s playbook. Or maybe Wells tore out several pages, using them to his advantage on the way to the top of the U.S. Mountain Bike National Championship’s podium.
Imitating JHK’s 2009 performance, Wells snatched a pair of national championship wins in Sol Vista, Colorado aboard Specialized’s new 2011 S-Works Epic 29er, a carbon fiber full-suspension race bike from the company out of Morgan Hill, California.
Typically, high mountains and big wheels have been the domain of JHK, a Colorado resident and Subaru-Trek rider. Last year JHK won his Stars-and-Stripes jersey on a Gary Fisher (now Trek) Superfly 100.
But Specialized is making big inroads with their 29ers for 2011. The company even chose Keystone, Colorado to show off the complete line of bikes for the new season.
