What a great article, and an awsome trail... I understand Oscar and John see the "bikes are not just toys". They are however unaware of this area's general lack of Mt.bike trail. Lots of forests and green, but most private (owned by timber companies) so this beautiful area has a no real "singletrack" except for this trail (now becoming a trail system). The idea is to draw people to this area and the sport by making the best (and only) made for bicycle. Everything else here is a old forest road or (not legal) hiking trails.

and anyway, even if the trails went through town in this area, they would still lead to "no where" basically... thats the other draw of mountian bikes is get me away from cars and people... this is an great trail and good example of what we bicyclinst can do if we work together. From behind the Redwood curtian - Mick

Greater purpose ? Oscar, you and John can ride your "greater purpose urban commuter trails", but I personally prefer trails that have nothing to do with urban areas and allow me to escape man's creation and enjoy god's creation ! Keep up the great work Joey ! IMBA, my check is in the mail for more greater purpose..."trails to nowhere" ! :-)

The stories of our original trail-blazers like Lewis & Clark continue and live on! So wonderfully described, one can feel the branches brush the skin as Klein trims the branches! Forge on, Joey.

I agree with Oscar, the IMBA should be desiging trails with a greater purpose. The trail recreation does get the obese children out of the house and therefore lowers are dependence on the fragile health care system, but can't we get these porkers to ride trails to work and stores?

Intersting article, its amazing that the US spent a million dollars on a 14 mile trail to nowhere. It would be nice if the IMBA started designing trails with some commuter utility to reduce carbon emmisions. Never-the-less, I am envious of Joey Kliens job as a master trail designer. Great article!

Nice work Vicky! I can hardly wait 'til next year when construction starts. We have a lot happening here on the north coast, but this project is by far my favorite.

It's ironic that the creation of Wilderness in King Range was one of the precipitating factors in building this trail system. I guess I should send a letter of thanks to Senator Boxer and Congressman Thompson.
