Crested Butte Fat Tire Bike Week organizers have added a 100-person, 40-mile cross-country race to the week’s festivities. The long-course event will play out on the high alpine singletrack that has made the Butte famous; views of the West Elk Mountains, well-maintained, Aspen groves and wildflowers, only sweeten the pot.

In addition to the bike racing, the 29th annual festival will include four days of  live music, an interactive bike village with demo bikes and, of course, the charm of Crested Butte itself—one of mountain biking’s birthplaces (visit the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame while there). Fat Tire Bike Week goes down June 24–28, 2009.

“In the March 2009 issue of Bike magazine, Crested Butte is heralded as the Best Destination, our Teocalli Ridge trail was honored as the Best Climb, Deadman’s Gulch was named the Best Tight ‘N Twisty Trail, and the legendary 401 got Honorable Mention for 2008 Trail of the Year. Check it all out for yourself during the 2009 Fat Tire Bike Week! Ride truly epic singletrack, cool off with micro brew poured by Colorado’s own New Belgium Brewing, jam to great live music, and ride the latest bikes from the top manufacturers.”

“Fat Tire Bike Week is the granddaddy of them all,” said Scott Still, the Events Manager at the Crested Butte / Mt. Crested Butte Chamber of Commerce, “and the 2009 Fat Tire will have a larger Bike Expo and some great new events like the Project Rwanda Benefit Concert and the First Annual Fat Tire 40 mountain bike race.”
